Situated on the Bridgewater Canal which forms a main part of the Cheshire Ring, is approximately 40 miles in length with no locks, from Leigh in the North, to Manchester, and to Runcorn in the West. It joins the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Leigh, the Rochdale Canal and River Irwell at Manchester and the Trent and Mersey Canal at Preston Brook.
We are a members only social cruising club. We do not offer residential (liveaboard) moorings. We have moorings at both Sale and Timperley. Our moorings have a members only clubhouse which is open each weekend when the club isn't away cruising. Facilities also include a shower and toilet block as well as an elsan waste disposal for members use.
Our moorings are in high demand and there is often a waiting list so please contact us, via our Home page, and we can then give you more details on joining and availability.
There is a strong social slant to the Club's activities with official cruises during the summer and social events in the Clubhouse throughout the year. The Club is not here just to provide cheap moorings for boats. Members are expected to attend meetings and take part in cruising, social and maintenance activities. Monthly meetings are held in the Clubhouse on Wednesday evenings during the summer and on Sunday afternoons outside the cruising season.
The club is governed by a committee, elected each year in February, at the Annual General Meeting, comprising Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Mooring and Assistant Mooring Officer, Social Secretary, Membership Secretary, Publicity Officer, Clubhouse Manager and three ordinary members.
The operation of the Club and the committee is in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association, Rules, Bye Laws and Policies and Procedures currently in force.
The Clubhouse is usually open on Friday evenings, and Sunday afternoons and Bank Holidays, or when cruising permits. The Clubhouse also has pool, darts, music and television facilities. Members are allowed to bring visitors into the Clubhouse provided they are signed in. The member concerned is responsible for their guests conduct and behaviour and there is a limit to the number of times they may attend each year. Those wishing to attend on a regular basis are expected to join as Social members.
After initial acceptance, new cruising member's activity level will be reviewed on the 6th and 12th month anniversary of joining. All Cruising Members are required to reach a participation level set annually by the members and all members are reviewed at the end of each cruising season. All boats on the moorings must be licensed and insured and hold relevant safety certificate.
A cruising list will be issued each year showing dates and location of planned activities. Subject to the requirement to participate, members are invited to attend any of these events.
